Structure of The Laminate Flooring

The laminate flooring comprises multi-layered materials. Although the structure may vary slightly based on the flooring style, it typically includes the following essential layers:

1. The core layer is the main component of the laminate flooring. It is usually made of high-density fiberboard (HDF), which is derived primarily from wood, to enhance the stability and durability of the flooring and ensure a flat surface.

2. The wear-resistant layer, made from transparent aluminium oxide, improves the flooring’s wear resistance, protecting it from scratches, abrasions, and stains, and affects its glossiness and appearance.

3. The decorative layer is located beneath the wear-resistant layer. It achieves the aesthetic and enhances the seamless appearance of the flooring through printing technologies, creating textures and patterns such as wood grain, stone, or tiles.

4. The balancing layer is positioned below the core layer. It is usually composed of fiberglass, which helps improve the flooring’s stability and prevent deformation.

5. The bottom layer is made of PVC. It balances and provides additional support to the flooring.

Advantages of Laminate Flooring

Wear-resistant and durable

The laminate flooring includes a wear-resistant layer, which makes it resistant to scratches and damage. Its high density can endure impacts and pressures exerted by furniture or other heavy objects.

Variety of styles and patterns

With printing technology, numerous design options are available for laminate flooring and can cater to various stylistic needs, such as wood grains and textures.

Resistant to moisture

Since the laminate flooring is not made of solid hardwood and features a wear-resistant layer and a PVC bottom layer, it’s less susceptible to moisture than traditional solid wood floors.

Installation is easy with a click-locking system

Laminate flooring features a click-locking installation system, eliminating the need for glue. It is easy to install and time-saving, making it popular for do-it-yourself enthusiasts. Moreover, the absence of gaps between floorboards prevents trapping the dirt, making cleaning easier.

Affordable

Generally, the price of laminate flooring is quite affordable. However, given the quality variations on the market, it’s recommended to pay close attention to the flooring material when choosing, to ensure that the particular material fits your budget.

How to Maintain Laminate Flooring

Since the laminate flooring has no gaps between its planks, it doesn’t trap dirt, making the care and maintenance routines for it relatively simple with daily cleaning. However, it is advised to avoid surface scratches from moving furniture, even given its high scratch resistance. Consider sticking protective pads to the bottom of your furniture. Furthermore, because the laminate flooring is made of fiberboard, its surface should not have prolonged contact with water. If the flooring gets wet or stained, you should immediately dry it with a towel. Using a damp mop for cleaning isn’t recommended. There is also no requirement for waxing.

Frequently Asked Questions About Laminate Flooring

What is the difference between laminate flooring and engineered wood flooring?

The laminate flooring and engineered wood flooring are vastly different. Engineered wood flooring is composed of 100% natural wood, displaying a purely natural texture akin to solid wood flooring, with different but natural wood grains on each floorboard. However, its installation typically requires nails or flooring adhesives, making it more complex and expensive.

On the other hand, laminate flooring is primarily made of wood fibers, with its texture being artificially printed. This allows for a wide variety; however, it doesn’t match the quality of natural wood’s texture. Yet, the click-locking installation design of laminate flooring is much simpler and more cost-effective than solid wood flooring.

Does laminate flooring need waxing?

Laminate flooring does not need waxing. Waxing is only suitable for floors with a real wood surface.

 .

Can laminate flooring be installed by yourself?

Yes. Laminate flooring is easy to install with a click-locking system. Just follow the simple procedures and lay laminate flooring at home. However, ensure the ground is level before installation to prevent floor inclinations. Pay attention to details such as floor trimming and sealing strips. If you are inexperienced in home renovation, it’s recommended to hire a professional for installation.
